October 1st marks the 2nd annual MatoskaFest fundraiser and Color Run. The committee is hard at work putting the finishes touches together to create another fun and family friendly event for the community.
MatoskaFest begins at 10am on Saturday with a Color Run. Didn't register? No worries, you can just show up and register the morning of the event and take part in the fun. After everyone has crossed the finish line, join us behind school (playground side) and in the gym for approximately 20 games and activities and 5 bounce houses. Each game or bounce house will require 1, 2 or 3 punches. You can purchase punch cards (10 punches) for $5 at the event, as well as unlimited bounce house wrist bands for $10. It's not too late to pre-order the punch cards and wrist bands, just simply return the form you got from your child's teacher by Thursday of this week.
Some of the games you will enjoy at MatoskaFest include a High Striker to test your strength, pumpkin bowling, Minute to Win It, cupcake walk, gunny sack races and a Haunted House created by our very own 5th grade class. Play the games to win prizes then take a break and grab a burger or hot dog and some caramel apples while you chat with friends.
Before you head out, don't forget to check out the basket raffle. Take your chances on some pretty awesome baskets with items donated from Matoska Families. Just purchase the number of tickets you'd like to drop in the bags (cash only, it's the law) and make your choices wisely! The basket themes include Family Fun Night, Winter Fun, WBL Spirit and the ever popular Lego baskets. While you wait for the basket raffle tickets to be drawn, check out the silent auction. Some of the amazing auction items this year include a cabin weekend getaway, a photography session from 1st grade teacher Adina To, $100 gift card to Pinz and 2 climbing wall sessions for 11 kids with Mr. Butters! You don't want to miss out on all of the other amazing items we have up for auction.
AND, don't forget to get your raffle tickets in if you want a chance to win the 50 inch tv, kindle fire or $50 gift certificate to Scholastic Books. We are collecting them until Thursday and will be drawing the winners on Friday evening.
So, grab your kids, your friends and head on out to Matoska for a fun filled afternoon of games, food and community building. We look forward to seeing you there!
Welcome to the 2016-17 school year Matoska Families! The beginning of the year brings so much excitement for both students and families alike. Our children all look a little taller as they board the school bus for the first time this year, new backpacks on their backs and nervous smiles on their face. On that first day, it may have been hard to let our little ones go. Yet, a seasoned Matoska family surely knows that being a part of this school community makes our goodbye's so much easier. We must now trust the incredibly capable hands of our talented and dedicated teaching staff to help mold our little people into respectful, compassionate and intelligent members of our community.
As we enter into our 2nd week, perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed with the plethora of information that has made its way into those backpacks. As a mom to 3 students in 2 different schools this year, I feel the stress of activities, fundraisers and homework looming over me. As most of us know, juggling sports and after school clubs, homework and reading as well as spending time as a family can be difficult. A goal of the MIPTO this school year is to create family friendly events where you are able to bond as a family while making connections with our amazing community. We have a lot of fun planned for the year, including MatoskaFest and a Color Run on October 1st, a family dance night later this fall, several great activities for I Love to Read Month in February and many more.
We welcome you to attend our monthly meetings. It is low stress and informative and we love to hear from members of the Matoska community. We are always in need of volunteers for many of our events, please contact Cami Raeburn, our Vounteer Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org to get added to our volunteer database.
As we come to the end of our 2nd week of school, we should all give ourselves a big pat on our backs. We made it through a lot of "firsts" which were likely accompanied with some emotional moments. Cheers to a successful and fun school year!
